Tiruchirappalli, also known as Tiruchi or Trichy, is a city located in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the most densely populated cities of the state.Accorading to the Hindu Mythology the name of the city is derived from the name of three-headed demon Trishira, who meditated Lord Shiva. Tiruchirappalli, is one of the oldest cities historically. Uraiyur, a suburb region of Tiruchirapalli was the capital of the Cholas from the 3rd century BC. Kallanai (Lower Anaicut), which is believed to be the oldest civilisation of the world is located very close to the city. It was built in the 2nd century AD by Karikala Chola. Delhi and Madurai sultanates, ruled the city in different periods of time. Vijayanagar Empire, also ruled over the city. British also ruled over the city for a long period of time.
