Gandhinagar, is the capital city of Gujarat. It lies on the banks of River Sabarmati. Gandhinagar is known as the financial capital of India.The state of Gujarat is famous for being the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi. The famous King Pethasinh of Pethapur, during the 13th century ruled Shertha. Sultan Ahmed Shah shifted his capital to a new city which later came to be known as Ahmedabad. In the year 1960, the state of Bombay was split in to two different states Gujarat and Mahrashtra. This is how the new capital city was born which was once part of the Pethapur state.
