Lonavala is a beautiful hill station located in the district of Pune in Maharashtra, India. During monsoon the beauty of the city attracts many visitors. Lonavala is known for its rich history. The city is home to the premier institute INS Shivaji, which adds glory to the city. The name LONAVALA is derived from Prakrit. In Prakrit Len means a resting place which is derived from stone, while Avali means series. The Yadav ruled the city for quite a long period of time. The hill stations of Lonavala and Khandala were discovered in the year 1871, by the Governor of Bombay Presidency, Lord Elphinstone. The Mughals ruled the city for a long period of time till the British poured in and established their reign in the city.
